About the event

The Sony Filmmakers Event is a must-attend for anyone involved in filmmaking. It’s a day full of inspiring talks, networking opportunities, and a delicious lunch prepared by our Aussie friend, Louis. Everything is taken care of!

Conversations

This year, we’re kicking things off with Joosje, a remarkably talented director who has written and produced her own feature film. You can read her full bio further down the page. We'll have an informal conversation with her about her journey to becoming a director, the challenges she's faced, and her creative vision. We’ll also analyze two scenes from her movies, 'Happy Ending' and 'Máxima,' to understand her working style, thought process, and preparation techniques. The best part? You get to join the conversation and ask your own questions!

After a break for lunch, made by Louis, we’ll continue our knowledge adventure with Director of Photography, Roderik Patijn. Roderik transitioned to cinema later in life, but he performs at an incredibly high level. We'll start with an informal discussion about his work, touching on the more technical aspects. Once again, you’re invited to participate in the conversation!

After a short break, we’ll dive into a lighting workshop led by Roderik and his gaffer, Jan. They’ll be sculpting a scene in a studio setting—extremely exciting stuff!

This was last years edition

Last year, we hosted our first Sony Filmmakers Event, and it was a smashing success!

With 70 filmmakers in attendance, the event was buzzing with diversity, featuring wedding filmmakers, directors, editors, and colorists. The day kicked off with an inspiring talk by Sander Janssen on the director's vision. Then, Mark Modder, aka Steadieddie, took the stage to delve into the technical aspects of filmmaking and the role of a Steadicam operator. Finally, Sjoerd wrapped up with an insightful talk about the world of online content and YouTube.

Check out the short aftermovie below and get pumped for this year's edition!

This year's speakers

This year's speakers

This year, we have the pleasure of welcoming two exceptionally talented filmmakers to our event. We'll explore their backgrounds, uncovering the journeys that brought them to where they are today. We'll delve into the challenges they faced, the perseverance required to succeed, and the unique methods they employ on set. What drives their vision? How do they consistently produce such stunning works of art?

As filmmakers, our curiosity is endless. Engaging with fellow creators who share our passion is not just inspiring but essential for our growth. The exciting part? You get to be an active participant in this dialogue. We'll have a microphone available for the audience, giving you the chance to ask the questions you've always wanted to ask.

Location & Routes

Just like last year, we'll gather at Pixel Universe, an incredible studio and creative space in Haarlem. With four studios of various sizes, it's the perfect venue for our event.

The large outdoor area gives us plenty of room to explore, get inspired, and enjoy each other's company!

From Amsterdam, you can park around the studio within 20 minutes, and this won't cost you anything at all🔥.

Additionally, the studio is easily accessible by public transport. It's a 20-minute walk from Haarlem-Spaarnwoude train station. From Haarlem Central train station, you can take bus 15, which practically stops around the corner.
